We claimed Bishop of Nola for $25,000 from his winning race at Saratoga on July 30th, 2010. He’s a dark brown three-year-old gelding by multiple Grade 1 winner Devil His Due, out of the Forty Niner mare Via Mizner. And he’s a New York-bred, who still had his state-bred allowance conditions available when we claimed him. Bishop of Nola won the race that we claimed him from, which brought his lifetime record to two wins, three seconds and a third from 11 starts, with earnings of just over $70,000. Then, just two weeks later, in his first start in our colors, he led all the way in a NY-bred allowance at Saratoga, drawing off to win by 5 1/2 lengths. In three tries at the tougher N2X condition, Bishop of Nola had a second (by inches!) and a third. We gave him a winter break, and he returned to the races on May 27th at Belmont, with a 3rd in a NY-bred N2X allowance, then followed that up with a wire-to-wire win in a NY-bred turf allowance on June 25th. He’ll soon be returning to his favorite track, Saratoga, where he won twice last year.
