Castle Village Farm’s three-year-old NY-bred gelding Bishop of Nola finished second in Saturday’s first race at Aqueduct. Bishop of Nola led most of the way in the mile and a sixteenth N2X turf allowance, then was passed by two horses on the turn, but battled back in the stretch to lose by just a nose at the wire.

Bishop of Nola, ridden on Saturday by David Cohen and trained by Bruce Brown, now has a win, a second and a third in four starts, all in allowance company, since we claimed him in Saratoga this summer.

Castle Village Farm’s three-year-old Bishop of Nola ran a very creditable 3rd in today featured 8th race at Aqueduct, a NY-bred N2X allowance at a mile and a sixteenth on the turf. Bishop of Nola survived some early bumping, thanks to adroit handling by jockey David Cohen, then tracked the wire-to-wire winner, Abilio, before fading slightly in the stretch.

In three races for Castle Village Farm since he was claimed, Bishop of Nola has a win and a 3rd-place finish.

The 10th race at Belmont on Sunday, October 17th, was inexplicably taken off the turf — all four of the other turf races carded for Sunday ran on the grass as scheduled — so we scratched Bishop of Nola. We’ll look for another shot at the New York-bred N2X allowance on the grass, either before the end of the Belmont meet or early at Aqueduct.
