Castle Village Farm’s newest horse, five-year-old gelding Good Law, prevailed in a long stretch drive to win Wednesday’s 3rd race, a starter allowance,  at Belmont by a head.  Good Law, under jockey David Cohen, sat well back off a torrid pace early, then closed well in the stretch and survived some bumping to win.

We’d claimed Good Law on April 7th, and Bruce Brown did a superb job of getting him in shape for the race.  Congratulations to all involved.

Castle Village Farm’s new claim, five-year-old Good Law, races Wednesday, May 5th, in the 3rd race at Belmont.  It’s a starter allowance for horses that have run for a claiming price of $10,000 or less since 2008.  David Cohen will ride for trainer Bruce Brown.

Castle Village Farm’s seven-year-old warrior, Bagavond, had hist first breeze of the year this morning, working a relaxed half-mile in 49.66 seconds on the Belmont training track. Bagavond, who’s won for us in each of the past four years, had the winter off, down at Diana McClure’s Carousel Farm in Virginia. We’ll be pointing him toward a turf sprint at Belmont sometime in the second half of May.

Our newest horse, the five-year-old gelding Good Law, was entered for a starter allowance on Saturday, May 1 at Belmont, but the race wasn’t used. A similar race is back up as an extra for Sunday, May 2.

We claimed Good Law on April 7th, and had entered him earlier for this past Sunday, April 25, at Aqueduct, but that race wasn’t used either. Will be nice to see him in our silks.

Castle Village Farm’s new 2010 Claiming Partnership got underway on Wednesday, April 7th, when we claimed the five-year-old New York-bred gelding Good Law out of the 8th race at Aqueduct for $25,000.  Good Law will be trained for CVF by Bruce Brown. He’s a big, well-muscled bay, who comes to us with a lifetime record of 27-8-2-4 and earnings of $146,696. There’s still room in our claiming partnership for new partners who’d like to join us and enjoy being part of Good Law’s racing career.

Castle Village Farm’s 4-year-old colt Strings and Arrows tries the turf for the first time on Saturday, April 3rd, at Aqueduct, in the 11th race (post time 6:17 pm). It’s a NY-bred maiden special weight at 1 1/16th miles, with a full field of 12 entered. Victor Santiago will ride for CVF trainer Leah Gyarmati.

Strings and Arrows will be wheeling back on two weeks’ rest from his good 3rd-place finish on the dirty on March 21st. With Northern Dancer and His Majesty in his pedigree, and several siblings who ran very well on grass, we’re hoping to see a strong race in his first turf try.

Castle Village Farm’s four-year-old colt Strings and Arrows ran a solid 3rd in Aqueduct’s 6th race on Sunday, March 21st, at odds of 29-1.  In his first try going two turns, Strings and Arrows, under jockey Mike Luzzi, led for three-quarters of a mile in the New York-bred maiden special weight event, then grudgingly gave in to two challengers while holding the rest of the field at bay. Trainer Leah Gyarmati plans to keep Strings and Arrows running longer distances, and to try him on turf when the grass racing season starts next month.

Castle Village Farm’s four-year-old colt Strings and Arrows, by Bowman’s Band, is entered in the 6th race at Aqueduct on Sunday, March 21st. It’s a NY-bred maiden special weight at one mile 70 yards, with a full field of 10 entered. Most of the field, including Strings and Arrows, had been entered last Saturday at Aqueduct, but that race card was cancelled because of bad weather.  Jockey Mike Luzzi will ride Strings and Arrows for CVF trainer Leah Gyarmati.

Racing was cancelled at Aqueduct today, wiping out Strings and Arrows’ planned start in the second race, a NY-bred maiden special weight at one mile 70 yards.  So we’re still looking for a two-turn race for our boy. Next one in the condition book is next Sunday, March 21, but maybe the racing office will re-use today’s race before then. Let’s hope.

Our four-year-old colt Strings and Arrows will be entered for a NY-bred maiden special weight at Aqueduct for Saturday, March 13th, going one  ile and 70 yards.  The racing office put the race up as an extra after a couple of two-turn races for Strings and Arrows failed to draw enough entries, and so we had to run him at six furlongs, a lot shorter than his best distance.  If the race goes, this will be his third start suince returning from an injury, and we’ll be looking for a strong performance.
