Castle Village Farm racing manager Steve Zorn writes regularly on the business of thoroughbred racing. It’s an iconoclastic view of the game we all love, definitely not the same-old, same-old view that’s usually repeated by industry insiders. You can check it out here: http://businessofracing.blogspot.com or by clicking on the Blog tab on our home page.
Our four-year-old colt Strings and Arrows, making his second start off a seven-month layoff, ran a solid 4th in Aqueduct’s 7th race today, gaining ground through the stretch. The race was at six furlongs, which is shorter than we wanted, but NYRA hasn’t been using any two-turn maiden races for older horses. So we entered here and got a solid performance that reinforces our belief that Strings and Arrows will do better as the distances lengthen out. In any event, Aqueduct had a huge speed bias today, so our colt’s closing effort was even more impressive.
Castle Village Farm’s four-year-old colt Strings and Arrows, by Bowman’s Band, makes his second start following a seven month layoff when he goes to the post on Saturday, Deb. 20th, in Aqueduct’s 7th race. It’s a New York-bred $50,000 maiden claiming race, at six furlongs on Aqueduct’s inner track. Jockey Mike Luzzi will ride for trainer and co-owner Leah Gyarmati.
Our four-year-olds based at Belmont, Talking Blues (trained by Bruce Brown) and Strings and Arrows (trained and co-owned by Leah Gyarmati) are both ready to race again. All they need now is for the NYRA racing office to cooperate. Both were targeting races in the condition book for this week, but neither race was used. So we’re watching the overnights and looking for the next available spots.
Our three-year-old colt Iguazu is back at work at the Palm Meadows training center in Boynton Beach, Florida. This past Saturday Iguazu breezed a half-mile in 48.50 seconds, the 6th fastest of 24 works at the distance that day.
Iguazu came out of the breeze in excellent shape and is back galloping on the track. He’ll have a few more breezes and then we’ll be looking for a race for him.
